Recommendations

Look on the side and you can see few of the books I like and would like to recommend them to you if you have the same tastes in books as me ( or not ).

ENJOY!!!

There's a Ghost in my house!

'So, can I have my lunch?' said Tom
' No' I said
'Oh, come on Chris, I'm really hungry' said Tom slobbering all over the carpet.
'I said NO!!!' I said furiously

Tom eyes widened and he quickly ran away in his four tiny legs.
Now, you must be thinking,  this guy crazy?'. Four tiny legs! You make him sound like an animal.Well, the thing is, he is an animal. Tom's my pet cat. Now you really must think I'm nuts. Firstly, why is this guy talking to his cat? and secondly, why can the cat talk?. The thing is my cat is possesed by a ghost who used to live in my attic, bah blah blah, well you know, the usual. Ok, well, you sure don't look like you get it, so I might as well start from the beginning.

Here goes, Today morning I was cooking my breakfast when suddenly Tom is just like' Hey man, whats up' I turned around  like a broken down robot and my face looked like it had just seen a ghost ( Well, literally, I did ). Then my cat explains to me how he's a ghost used to live in my attic and that Tom was his first host. For 2 hours there was silence and i finally managed to say 'huh'. Then it took me another 2 hours and now here I am. Acting normally as if it was normal for there to be a ghost who possesed my cat to be in my house.

Now, after all that I got a little bit stressed ( Truth me, just a LITTLE bit). And now that I think about it I think it was wrong to shout at him. I would have killed him to put me out of my misery but hey, looks like science still hasn't figured out a way to kill ghosts. Damn You Science!! Well, back to the main point ( sorry about that, I went off topic for a bit, got a bit excited you see ). Now,  How the hell am I going to go near Tom now?

Learning from Authors

1. Most of the authors site didn't look like it would appeal to anyone. But the sites of Steph Bowe, Michael Bauer and Steven Hennrick were preety good and appealing.

2. Hennrick told his mum he wanted to be a writer, when he was 18. He failed year 10 and started going into writing by first doing poetry. Michael hyde was a english teacher, journalist and truck driver before he became a writer. Michael Bauer got  double major degree in English Literature and became a  english teacher. During breaks he strated to write.

3. The authors I choose are Anthony Horowitz and Eoin Colfer, my two favorite authors. Horowitz has a very interesting writing style. He mainly writes humour and adventure books, although he does write some horror. He has a very unique writing style that makes it appealing. He also has the good ability to link books by detail. Because of this his series are fun to read. One of my favorite genres to read is fantasy as you already might know. Colfer does just this and is really good at it. His writing style is different from Horowitz but unique in its own way. Again his books are fun to read and are mainly fanasty or about imaginary things like: leprachauns, demons and superpowers but he writes it in a really cool way. The most favorite of his series I like is 'Artemiis Fowl'

4. Horowitz was born in a rich Jewish family and often got beaten by his headmaster. His mother gave him a human skull for his 13th brthday and he adored her. From the age of 8 he knew he wanted to be a writer and said that was the only time he was really happy. heis married and has 2 sons. He gets his ideas from them. Horowitz is one of my favorite writers and some of his books are now movies.

Design of a Novels Cover

I personally think the design of the cover is important but not as important as the blurb. But some people might disagree.

1.  The book I am reading is the 'Spook's Apprentice'.  It looks like it is covered in worn out weather and the barcode looks like old paper. It only has one picture and this is good. The colour, font, cover and illustration suits the book well.

2. No, not really. I don't exactly look at the cover instead i read the blurb on the back. As for the packaging of the read, again no. Even though it is good, no, I just read the blurb.

3.  A good front covers doesn't need to have lots of stuff going on. It needs to be nice and simple. Dull colours are really bad. As for a bad front cover, it's basically the opposite of everything I just said. Oh and a good front cover usually relates to the story and quickly captures attention.

4. Unfortunately, no, that has never happened to me.

5.   I happen to look upon Nick's former book 'Bloodflower'. The cover has a hand covered in battle armour and there is blood covering it. I immediately figure out that the main character is some kind of a warrior. I also think it is set in medieval times. I then think that their is a war or something similar going on. The cover is dull but the blood is bright a stands out and this is really effective.

Electronic Literature

1. It does sound like fun but personally it doesn't  really appeal to me. I rather prefer traditional novels. But I think it is good for younger readers.

2. I think the part where you intereact with the story, the music and the pictures will be very attractive for younger readers. The special extras make it more fun for them.

3. Youe eyes get sore after a while. You loose interest in reading normal books. People might find it hard to read a novel filled only with words.

4. Personally I think it is very different but I think other people say that it isn't really different because they find both types of reading comfortable. The main reason I think is because they both tell a story.

5. Well for starts there's the ibooks and newsstand on the apple appliences and I think ( I'm not sure) that some authors post their books on the web. So there's lots of books on the web.

6.  For me, online literature sucks. I very much prefer a normal book. First of all, I can take it where ever I want. I don't need to carry around a laptop all the time. Secondly, for my eyes feel better reading normal books. Last but not least, I feel more comfortable reading a real book rather than reading online.

Nothing compares to reading a real book. Its the best type of reading and I know a lot of people will agree with my opinion.

The Outcast Samurai

'Hey samurai, those swords look pretty good. Mind if i borrow them them?'
I didn't stop. This was the last thing I wanted.
' I said I'm going to borrow them' shouted the bulky bandit as he withdrew his sword and slashed at Chris. Chris, out of the corner of his eye saw the sword charging at his neck. In lightning speed Chris made three perfectly executed moves and appeared benind the attaker.
'Is that all you you've got?' laughed the bandit but then smirk got wiped of his face when his he
adband, belt and trousers suddenly dropped to the ground.
'You MONSTER!' cried the bandit as he ran of in fear.

Chris sighed heavily, he knew this would happen. Most of the villagers knew who he was, that's why they stayed clear but the bandits who lived in the mountains didn't. It wasn't his problem that his father was a powerful swordsman who died in battle nor was it his fault that he was just as skilled as him. His father was commited the crime of being a traitor and this was why everyone hated him. But he need not think about this, for at last he is hear, the great Shinso exams.

The place to test his swordsman skills and by winning, bring back the honour to his family. This is what he had been waiting for. This will show the result of rigirous training and the honing of his swordsmanship for years. But now that he was hear, he was nervous. Warriors from all around the world participated in this exam. Just then a man walked past him and chills went down his spine. The man emitted a very terrifying aura that scared the life out him. With people like this man can he really do it? Can he really win? because after that Chris instantly knew that this was not going to be easy.

The Blurb

This is the main aspect of a book according to me. I always and I mean ALWAYS choose a book based on the blurb. I rarely look at the front cover. I am currently reading a book called the Spooks Apprentice. the book front cover doesn't have much on it.
1. I intially wasn;t going to read the book but like I usually do, I read the blurb first. the blurd sounded fascinating and I started reading the book. Considering the amount of pages I have read in the book, I would say the blurb is pretty much precise and is as fascinating as I expected it to be.
2. The phrase that caught my eye in the is 'You are the last chance.the last hope'. It was written in the end and was in Bold.
3. The spooks apprentice is based on medivel times and the back the barcode is above and old piece of paper. the book looked like it was covered in leather and this caught my attention.
I would write the books blog like this:
'A seventh son of a seventh son is supposed to see what other people can't. This is a blessing but for them this is a curse. Join Thomas on his journey to become a spook. A person who protects the County and fights against the dark. But being a spook isn't easy and for Thomas, the horror is just about to begin.'

Thinking About My Reading Experience

I personally quite enjoy reading. In fact I love reading. Reading for me takes you to places that you can only imagine. When I'm reading I most of the time fell like I am the main character or I'm in that story. But i do get picky when reading certain types of books.
1. I feel comfortable reading in by bed or under a tree. I don't take books to road trips because reading in the car makes me sick. I also read at the beach.
2. I generally like reading at night because that's mostly when it's peaceful and quiet.
3. I don't really have a favorite type of author. In fact I rarely look who wrote the book. But I do like a few authors. All I do is read the book, if I like it. I do like the 'Alex Rider' series by Anthony Horowitz and I quite enjoyed the 'Artemis Fowl' series by Eoin Colfer. What I like about Anthony Horowitz is that he writes adventure type books. While Eoin Colfer goes for science fiction. I have only enjoyed some of their titles because the other books Anthony Horowitz wrote about are military type mixed with adventure.
4. I feel The main people who recommend books to me are my friends and Ms Buckley. Even though we don't exactly have similar tastes. I don't particularly recommend books to anyone.
The book I am currently reading has quiet a different style from other authors I have read.
I kind of genres I like to read in books are: fantasy, magic, action and adventure.  I am currently reading the first book of the 'Wardstone Chronicles'- the 'Spooks Apprentice'.it looks like a pretty good book and I am enjoying it.

What's in a Title?

Answering the current question, I would say that the author choose a very suitable title for the book, 'Red Leech'. The title mainly refers to the main antogonist of the book. I am not going to say in what way it refers to the antogonist because it would spoil the story. You will understand when he is first introduced in the book.
1. The title the author has chosen is good but it didn't exactly capture my attention. Even though it is a good title, I still don't throughly approve of it. If it was me I would have choosen a title that explains the story as a whole.
2. I would have choosen something like 'The Invasion' or 'Revenge'. This is because the aantoganist is trying to take over Canada because of a previous grudge.
3. The book is one of a series and the next titles I would choose would be. 'The Next Step ' would explain how Sherlock lives and how he starts to solve cases. 'History's Tresure' tell the story of hoe Sherlock now works as a well known detective. He will also solve a major case in the book.

Young Sherlock Holmes

The book I have is 'Red Leech', which is the second book in the 'Young Sherlock Holmes' series. The main plot is that Sherlock is a normal country boy. He then gets involved in dangerous stuff such as the criminal underworld. the story is set in the 1870's. the title of the book 'Red Leech' is highly related to one of the characters. The publisher has also choose the right colour scheme that relates to the title. I don't exactly like the book but I recommend it to the people who like murder and mystery.,
